Tile Adhesive

To enhance tiling work productivity, tile adhesive should have an extended open time, allowing more tiles to be affixed after application to the substrate. Additionally, for secure tile fixing, the adhesive should possess high tensile strength.

Cement Based Tile Adhesive

In the early stage of tile adhesive construction, that is, when applying tile adhesive and tiling, HPMC/HEMC plays a role in the adhesive to improve the ease of construction and opening time, after the tile adhesive solidifies, the effect of RDP on the adhesive gradually appears, it will form a layer of film on the surface of the slurry to prevent moisture from penetrating, at the same time, after curing, RDP will more firmly adsorb the tile, making the tile more solid and durable

HPMC/HEMC for Tile Adhesive

MikaZone HPMC/HEMC cellulose is extensively utilized in tile adhesives to boost work efficiency by preserving moisture for cement curing and enhancing bond strength.

HPMC or HEMC for tile adhesive?

HPMC and HEMC are basically the same in terms of function and performance, but due to the difference in substituent and gel temperature between the two, HEMC has a higher gel temperature (75-100°C), so it is more suitable for use in high-temperature environments.

If your construction environment or geographical location is in an area with high ambient temperature, you can choose HEMC as the direction of procurement of building additives, which is beneficial for creating high-quality projects

HPMC

Gel temperature ranges from 55 to 75 °C, which is generally suitable for all regions and construction projects.

HEMC

Gel temperature is 75-100°C, which is suitable for use in high temperature environments

HPMC/HEMC for Tile Adhesive

Economical tile cement has less cement than regular tile cement, but MikaZone® still provide strong adhesive strength due to their high water retention.

Standard tile cement (C1) meets EN12004 specifications with an adhesive strength of over 0.5 N/mm² after drying. Adding MikaZone® at 0.3-0.4% in dry-mix mortar achieves this strength.

High Performance Tile Cement (C2) meets EN12004 standards with an adhesive strength of at least 1.0 N/mm². The typical dosage of MikaZone® is 0.4 to 0.6%, the highest in tile cement.

Advantages of HPMC/HEMC for Tile Adhesive Mortar

Ensure Stronger Adhesion

MikaZone Cellulose HPMC/HEMC is essential in tile adhesive products, offering superior sag resistance. This ensures tiles remain securely bonded to walls or floors, creating a strong and durable hold.

Tile adhesives formulated with MikaZone Cellulose offer exceptional durability, maintaining integrity even after many years. Due to their reliability and long-lasting performance, MikaZone Cellulose tile adhesives are highly sought after for various construction projects.

High Water Retention

MikaZone Cellulose HPMC/HEMC is a crucial ingredient in tile adhesives and sealants. It effectively reduces moisture evaporation, ensuring a stronger and more reliable bond between tiles and walls, and preventing sagging or sliding during installation.

As a white powder, HPMC/HEMC readily dissolves in water, making it easy to incorporate into various additives and adhesive formulations.

Improve Your Work Efficiency

Tiling with MikaZone Cellulose HPMC/HEMC is efficient due to its strong water retention and viscosity, which enhance tile adhesive cement hydration and optimize performance. The controlled viscosity of HPMC/HEMC allows for precise application, ensuring seamless and aesthetically pleasing tiling projects.

RDP for Tile Adhesive

Redispersible polymer powders (RDPs) play a key role in tile adhesive applications, acting as binders, toughening agents, water retention agents and application facilitators, for which excellent bond strength and workability are important.

For large-area tiles and wall tiling, if the tile adhesive lacks viscosity and adhesion, the tiles will fall off. Therefore, the bonding strength can be enhanced by adding redispersible polymer powders (RDP) to the tile adhesive, so that the tiles can be smoothly pasted during the tiling process and are less likely to sag or fall off. Besides the bonding effect, RDP powders can also make the mortar easier to handle, saving time and energy.

RDP for Tile Adhesive

Add RDP to create the best quality tile adhesive

Firm adhesion

RDP powder is used as a bonding additive, which enhances the adhesion ability of the mortar by forming a strong film on different surfaces, so that the bricks attached to the wall will not fall easily and firmly adsorb the tiles

Crack Resistance | Durability | Strength

Adding Redispersible Polymer Powder (RDP) to tile adhesives will make them more compact and wear-resistant, prevent tiles from cracking. Meanwhile, RDP can also extend the durability of tiles and ensure the long-term use of tile adhesives.

waterproofness

RDP will form a film on the surface of the mortar to prevent water penetration, reducing the water absorption of the adhesive, which can protect the tile adhesive from moisture penetration and reduce the strength, making the tile more durable and strong.

The key performance characteristics of tile adhesive include bond strength, slip resistance, open time, crack resistance, flexibility, water resistance, heat resistance, and freeze resistance. These features not only affect the immediate performance of the adhesive but also play a crucial role in the long-term durability and overall quality of tile installations and building decorations.

The amount of cellulose ether in tile adhesive should be carefully controlled. Adding too much can cause the material to stick to construction tools, making the application process more difficult. Excessive cellulose ether may also lead to indentations in the mortar and grout, affecting the overall quality of the installation.
